You Are Free

Back in December I ventured with a friend to this same graffiti park and painted “you are loved" on the wall--words maybe trite, overused--words still needed in a world breaking and crying out for healing, reconciliation, belonging—words underused until every person knows and believes them to be true, feels them to their toes and dances in the glory of it all.
Today I etched "you are free" onto the wall, declaring a prayer over myself and my people--how would I live if I cast off the striving, laid down the burdens I emphatically carry, gave Jesus permission to heal my scars? I'm not quite sure, but I think it would feel like FREEDOM and look like beauty and smell like the fragrance of the gospel. It might shine out just like the stars in the universe and raise an army of dry bones to life. Here it is, it's true: you and I, today--we are FREE (John 8:36).
